Gingival Retraction and Preparation
Basically, retraction cord is inserted during the preparation of the subgingival or marginal margin.
I use SURE-Cord®.
This cord contains aluminum chloride, which has a hemostatic effect and is highly recommended.
There are various thicknesses of cords. If the periodontal pocket is less than 2 mm, I use 000.0, if it is deeper than that, I use 000 green cord.
SURE-Cord® Plus is impregnated with Aluminum chloride which reduces the liquid in gingival pocket and closes the smaller blood vessels.
①Anesthesia is administered to avoid bleeding during the formation.
(Only surface anesthesia is acceptable to avoid pain during insertion of the retraction cord.
②The retraction cord is inserted gently, similar to probing pressure. It does not need to be pushed in deeply, but only to the depth of the planned preparation.
